| Instrumentation |
The Zandu Pharmaceutical works Ltd. is having following modern instruments for product development and carrying out in depth research on Herbs and its essential oils. All these modern instruments are handled by the approved Chemists, Doctorates and Doctors.
The laboratories are approved by FDA and functioning with Good Lab Practices. In Zandu, many professionals from their respective Fields like - Botany, Pharmacognosy, Toxicology, Pharmaceutics and Ayurvedic Profession, etc. are working towards further enhancing the remedies and also sharing their knowledge and expertise for better living. |
| UV / Visible Spectrophotometer |
With this determination of functional groups and probable structure of the compounds is carried out. The instrument is equipped with sophisticated software and handled by learned Technicians / Chemists for research work of quantifying active component from the raw material. |
| HPLC |
HPLC is used for separation of active ingredients from the plant extracts. The instrument is provided with powerful DEC 350 professional computer for evaluation of the separated components and their uses. The Chemists are using it for the process control in Ayurvedic system of medicines. |
| HPTLC |
Thin layer chromatography, is an indispensable laboratory technique for phytochemical work. This technique is most suited for qualitative analysis i.e. for fingerprinting or identification of incoming plant raw material. This instrument is utilized for the quantitative analysis. |
| RO/UF |
RO/UF is one of the most advanced techniques for concentration of water extracts. Ayurveda describes only water extraction of herbal material which is concentrate by removing water on either steam or under vacuum. This Reverse Osmosis which can be done at room temperature without destroying the active ingredients. |
| Waters Delta Prep & Kiloprep HPLC System |
The delta prep HPLC system is utilized for the isolation of active ingredient in the milligram level. This is mainly a step between analytical scale HPLC and preparative HPLC system. The extract which is scanned on analytical scale HPLC can be directly injected on this instrument to get compound of interest in milligram quantity. These data are further utilized for scale up purpose on Kilo Prep System.. In Kilo Prep HPLC we can separate a compound of about 95 % purity under ideal operative condition. These compounds are then supplied to pharmacology department for studying the pharmacological activity. |
| Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers |
These are mainly used for analysis of metals from our Ayurvedic preparation like Bhasmas. The toxic metals like mercury, lead, arsenic, etc., can be estimated from the plant raw materials, blood and tissues in monogram levels hence is useful in controlling such poisonous metals from our raw materials as well as in the final preparations. |
| GCMS |
Gas chromatography equipped with mass selective detector is a very useful instrument for the structural identification of various active ingredients. This instrument is provided with excellent software which can be utilized to find out the structures of impurities in a Compound. |
